Infectious Disease Biology

Infectious Diseases such as Malaria, Tuberculosis, HIV, Dengue, Chikungunya, Cholera, Leishmaniasis, Japanese Encephalitis, Filariasis etc. have caused serious epidemics in recent years and have started contributing to substantial disease burden. In order to address various issues and related concerns, Department of Biotechnology (DBT) is focusing on R&D activities in the area of infectious diseases specifically relevant to the country caused by various pathogenic agents like bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi.


The overall emphasis of the R & D programs supported is to develop preventive, therapeutic and diagnostic tools for infectious diseases.
